The business mogul drew heavy criticism on social media after a tweet in which he showed off his new plane

Lord Sugar has drawn the scorn of many on Twitter after making a grand display of his wealth.

The business magnate and Apprentice star, 73, posed beside his new plane as he updated fans on the purchase.

The Sunday Times Rich List ranks Lord Sugar as a billionaire.

He’d flown the plane from Knoxville in Tennessee to Florida’s Pompano Beach.

“Collected the new plane today,” he captioned the snap, “Flew it down from Knoxville to Pompano Beach.”

Many of his followers weren’t impressed, slamming Lord Sugar for the show of wealth while so many struggle financially amid coronavirus.

One angrily wrote: “We get it, you’re rich.”

Another sarcastically added: “I’m sure the millions of unemployed/furloughed will be so pleased for you.”

A third came in: “Probably not the most sensitive thing to post in the present climate???!

A fourth raged: “People made redundant, the world is fighting a pandemic, nurses getting provisions from food banks. 40,000 dead from covid and you post this. You really have no idea about peoples daily struggles.”

Lord Sugar’s rep declined to comment.

Comedian Joe Lycett cut in with some customary humour: “drove my ford fiesta to homebase today but you don’t see me tweeting about it. either way i’m horny hbu??”

Others, though, defended Lord Sugar, insisting he can spend his hard-earned money however he pleases.

“What a nice change,” one wrote, “You earned the money, they hate that. Lovely colour.”

Another penned: “Seems to be a lot of animosity towards LS getting his plane, guys worked hard his whole life employs a lot of people, now enjoying the spoils, that’s ok right? Suspect if we were millionaires we’d do similar things…enjoy.”

A third offered: “Looks amazing Lord Sugar – you must be very proud indeed.”

His Twitter feed has been getting even more attention than usual amid the coronavirus crisis.

He’s hit out several times at Piers Morgan’s coverage of the crisis, with the two cutting ties with one another after their clashes became too heated.

Piers told The Sunday Times that they’d gone beyond the point of no return.

“It’s gone way beyond a joke, and for me it’s ruined our friendship,” he explained.

“I think we’re done as friends. I can’t see through the behaviour.”
